7 Astonishing Facts On How Fast Fashion Is Harming The Environment

There are very few people out there that are aware of just how damaging the fast fashion industry is on our planet.

Take a look at the below video produced by the World Economic Forum (make sure you have the volume turned on). Across decades of madness we have moved away from natural fibres and naively embraced synthetics and blends that are toxic on our planet during production, during use, and of course when we throw these items away into the land fill where they fail to degrade. We've developed an insatiable appetite for buyng cheap, only to see these items discarded in less than 12 months due to poor workmanship. And then there is the excessive abuse of our precious water resources during production, and the massive use of chemicals that negatively affect both the land, worker's health and our own health.

Even within our School system here in Australia, over 5 million synthetic, chemically infused school uniform polos are being worn by our kids across 10,000 schools every day. They are generally poor quality, produced cheaply in places like China, Indonesia & Bangladesh, and supplied by well known School Uniform brands who give nil consideration to the environment, or workers rights for that matter.

In contrast, here are 7 astonishing facts on how RREPP turns one of the dirtiest industries, both socially and environmentally, into one of the cleanest. Our Organic & Fairtrade certified supply chain :

1) Reduces land and water acidification by 70%
2) Reduces Global Warming by 46%
3) Reduces blue water consumption by 91%
4) Reduces soil erosion by 26%
5) Reduces non renewable energy demand by 62%
6) Uses nil toxic chemicals and nil GMO cotton seeds
7) Supports gender equality, fair pay and safe working conditions in what is normally a highly exploitive industry that sustains poverty rather than alleviating it.

We clearly need more transparency so our fashion choices can be more informed. Especially when it comes to Schools and larger Corporations purchasing policies. Even something as small as changing your School's uniform polo to 100% Organic & Fairtrade cotton will collectively have a significant impact both socially and environmentally. Fundraising for your School through P&C run uniform shops, whilst looking after people and planet, doesn't have to be mutually exclusive !

Ethical School Uniforms & Corporate Swag That Won't Cost The Planet !

Do you know who makes your School Uniform Polos ? Or the Corporate Tee's or Polo's your company purchases for their big events and conferences held every year ? You're not alone if the answer is No !

RREPP is currently on an ambitious campaign to scale up our business to be able to have an even greater impact for both people and planet in the Fairtrade and Organics space. To provide even more business to our 100% Fairtrade and GOT's organic supply chain, which in turn will mean more financial support being provided to our cotton growing communties who are producing the clean, high quality organic cotton that is used in all of our garments,

Some statistics from our supply chain worth noting. Organic cotton grown without chemicals is safer for our farmers, cleaner and healthier for our own bodies, especially our kids, and low impact on the environment. Yet only 0.7% of the world's cotton production is organically grown. Some other impressive environmental stats achieved through our organic initiatives include the following:

1) A 46% percent reduction in global warming potential
2) A 70% reduction in soil acidification
3) A 26% reduction in farm land soil erosion
4) A 62% reduction in non-renewable energy demand
5) A 91% reduction in blue water consumption

Add to this a Fairtrade Certification that provides better working conditions, wages, gender equality and safer & fairer work practices, then what RREPP has created is a range of Organic & Fairtrade certified School Uniform Polo's & Corporate Polo's and Tees that are some of the most socially and environmentally conscious found anywhere in Australia. Simply put we have taken one of the dirtiest and exploitive industries in the world which is the fashion industry, and turned it into one of the cleanest.

So is your School or Organisation ready to make the SWAP to RREPP ?.

More than 1.6 million farmers and workers are part of the Fairtrade system globally. It sounds like a lot, yet in the bigger picture scheme of things, it is a mere spit in the ocean ! In fact the majority of everyday products made today that we all buy and use, are made by workers struggling to stay above the poverty line.

This year Fairtrade Fortnight is on between 3-16 AUGUST which is your chance to support workers who are rarely given a voice, and to let others know in your friendship, family and social media networks to do the same. It's all about wherever possible, making more ethical choices in your everyday shopping and corporate purchasing.

As you know RREPP has a strong focus on the sports ball industry and trying to get Sporting Clubs and Schools to lead the way and understand the massive difference they can make through buying Fairtrade.

We also have a strong focus in changing one of the dirtiest industries environmentally and socially, into one of the cleanest, with our uniquely custom produced 100% Organic and Fairtrade Certified School Uniform Polos and Corporate Polos and Tees.

So in celebration of upcoming Fairtrade Fortnight, RREPP has released a NEW RANGE of high quality UNISEX blank Tees in Red, Black, White and Yellow colours and in sizes XS through to 3XL. And with every purchase of one of these amazing Tees, we have set up our online shop so you can also purchase one of our RREPP branded Black or White Mens or Ladies Tees FREE OF CHARGE . We will be running this offer right up until the end of Fairtrade Fortnight on 16th August.

To take advantage of this great offer, simply click HERE to be redirected to our online shop.

Modern Day slavery is still a huge issue for many workers around the world, yet this is something Fairtrade, with your help, is looking to eradicate. Thanks as always for your support.

Sustainable School Uniform Awarded Top Of Class

The past week has been a pretty big one for the RREPP brand. Firstly it was Fashion Revolution week which marked a week of campaigns that gave consumers the opportunity to question their favourite brands about their supply chain transparency. RREPP has a predominantly Corporate focus, so in line with our own business objectives, we would love to see our larger Corporate organisations and Schools asking their preferred clothing suppliers the simple question of 'WHO IS MAKING THEIR CLOTHES'.

Millions of people make the Uniforms our kids wear to School everyday, yet many of these people continue to live in extreme poverty. Most suppliers simply look to buy cheap from overseas producers in China, Indonesia and Bangladesh, and then look the other way. They have little knowledge about their supply chains, have scant regard for the people and their families who are making their products, and have minimal insights about the environmental impacts their garment manufacturers are having on the planet.

Last week Baptist World Aid Australia also released their annual Ethical Fashion Report, and for the third year running, out of over 400 Australian Brands, RREPP was ranked in the top categories with an 'A' grade ranking for ethics and sustainability. All our Corporate & School Uniform Polo's and Tees are not only internationally recognised Fairtrade certified, they are also 100% organic certified. Organic cotton turns one of the dirtiest industries in the world into one of the cleanest. By using organic cotton in our garments, we are achieving a 46% reduction in global warming potential, a 70% reduction in soil acidification, a 26% reduction in soil erosion, a 62% reduction in non renewable energy demand, and an amazing 91% reduction in blue water consumption.

Less than 0.7% of the worlds cotton production is organically grown, with this percentage even less when combined with RREPP's socially aligned Fairtrade certification. So if your Organisation or School would like to start dressing your employees or students in a more sustainable Uniform Polo or Tee that has significant social and environmental benefits, then why not pop us an email to find out more. We have just added a new Junior Long Sleeve Polo and Ladies Polo into our range as well.

Is Your Organisation Looking For An Ethical Supplier ?

Since receiving top honours by Baptist World Aid in their 2017 Ethical Fashion Report, RREPP has now positioned itself as one of Australia's leading ethical suppliers to Schools, Sporting Clubs and Businesses in general who have social justice and the environment at the core of their mission.

RREPP launched as an Ethical social enterprise in 2013 and targeted two of the most exploitive business sectors globally. The garment industry, with a particular focus on the Uniform Polo's and Tees commonly purchased by Schools and Corporate Organisations. And the sports ball manufacturing industry which is dominated by some of the world's biggest brands. Yet big on branding doesn't necessarily mean big on ethics, and this is where RREPP over the past 4 years has come into its own.

We are now producing some of the highest quality Organic and Fairtrade School Uniform Polo's, Corporate Polo's and Tees in Australia, simply by spending time and money on creating one of the most unique & ethical supply chains found anywhere in the world. A supply chain that supports workers and the environment every step of the way. From the organic cotton farmers who grow the chemical free organic cotton that our garments are made from, through to the last stitch being applied to our amazing match and international match sports balls. We live in a world where cheap mass production dominates, yet unfortunately this comes at a huge cost to the people making these products, their families and of course the environment.

RREPP's School Uniform Polo's, Corporate Polo's, Tees and Sports Balls simply reflect our committment to people and planet. Just because workers in far away third world countries cannot be seen, it should not be viewed as a green light to exploit. RREPP is a third party audited Fairtrade certified business that also supports Organic production processes. And for everything we produce, a percentage is put back into the communities we help support. Our products are also made to the highest quality, which equates to a longer lasting purchase that has less impact on the environment through reducing landfill and wastage. We stumbled across a great saying recently which stated ' The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten'. Definitely something to think about when updating your existing purchasing policies.

So to all Schools, P&C Uniform Shop committees, Sporting Clubs and Corporate Businesses in general, our question is, are you interested in taking your everyday purchasing to a completely new level via working with a supplier that supports your own Social Justice initiatives and 'Green' programs.  The second half of every year from July through to December is our busiest for talking to Organisations who would like to take action, and who are serious about creating meaningful change within their own purchasing policies & CSR committments.

If you would like to know more, we would love to hear from you. The next 3 -4 months is when we start taking orders for early 2018 deliveries. We've done all the hard work, all we need is for your Organisation to consider getting on board. Are you ready to make the swap to RREPP ?
